A group comprising of a few nationalities were reported to be part of the JAECOO J7 PHEV drive challenge from Guangzhou to Wuhu in China. The distance is said to be around 1,300km and they did it in a single tank with a single charge.

The journey took them around 13-hours to complete which went through various driving scenario including heavy traffic, national road, and intercity expressways. They were able to utilize around 125.2km of range using an all-electric motor although the spec sheet stated it could only do around 106km based on NEDC range.

The car is powered by a 1.5 TGDi Petrol engine with a dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT) with a front axle e-motor which fed by a 18.3 kW battery. In total, it produces around 347 PS and 525 Nm of torque. The car claimed to be running at 4.9 litres per 100km, or 5.99 litres per 100km in a power-depleted state. The JAECOO J7 PHEV have a 60 litres fuel tank to it.

The car is said to be coming to Malaysia in two variants which are 2WD and an AWD. It will come equipped with a Standard, Sport, and Economy modes; the latter adds Sand, Mud, Snow and Off-Road for a total of seven drive modes. The plug-in hybrid will be able to charge using a DC charger up to 40 kW with a vehicle-to-load (V2L) to power external appliances. Registration of interest is currently open for the JAECOO J7 PHEV and is said to be making its public viewing at Sunway Pyramid from 23rd of October till 27th of October. Launch is expected to take place later this year with first delivery targeted to be in February of 2025.
