Volvo Car Malaysia has officially pulled the wraps off its long-awaited crown jewel—the fully electric EX90. Commanding a starting price of RM428,888 (excluding insurance), this groundbreaking seven-seater flagship SUV isn’t just another luxury EV entering the market; it is a definitive statement of power, technology, and heritage.

Underneath its elegant, minimalist Scandinavian lines, the locally assembled EX90 is an absolute powerhouse. Built on an advanced 800-volt architecture, it utilizes a Twin Motor all-wheel-drive system that pushes out a mind-bending 680 horsepower and 870 Nm of torque.

Feeding this beast is a massive 106kWh battery pack, offering an incredible range of up to 617 km under the WLTP testing standard. And when you need to top up, fast charging capabilities mean you can juice the battery from 10% to 80% in just 22 minutes using a 350kW DC fast charger.

The EX90 functions essentially as a supercomputer on wheels. Driven by an Nvidia Drive AGX Orin-based core computer alongside Volvo’s proprietary Superset technology stack, the SUV processes data at lightning speed. This enables faster, more frequent over-the-air (OTA) software updates across every function—from battery management and infotainment performance to driving dynamics and safety protocols.

Inside the cabin, Volvo combines its renowned safety heritage with pure luxury. The EX90 is packed with cutting-edge safety features, including Volvo’s Safe Space Technology, Driver Understanding and Occupant Sensing systems, as well as next-generation Pilot Assist and Park Pilot Assist.

To celebrate the arrival of this flagship SUV, Volvo is giving the first 100 customers who book the EX90 an RM25,000 cash rebate along with a complimentary Volvo Wallbox worth RM3,990. Buyers can select from five distinct exterior colors and place bookings through Volvo’s online portal or authorized retailers nationwide.

The launch of the EX90 carries immense historical significance. Volvo’s deep-rooted journey in Malaysia dates back to the late 1940s and early 1950s when its vehicles first graced local roads through early import channels. By 1966, Volvo established Swedish Motor Assemblies (now Volvo Car Manufacturing Malaysia) in Shah Alam. Operations commenced in 1967, making it the first and oldest car manufacturing and assembly plant in Malaysia.

For nearly six decades, this assembly plant has been the bedrock of Volvo’s operations in the region, transitioning over the decades from classic petrol engines to high-efficiency plug-in hybrids, and now to full-fledged local assembly of zero-emission electric vehicles like the EX90.
