Proton e.MAS has strengthened its position as Malaysia’s leading electric vehicle (EV) brand, accounting for more than 60% of EV registrations in Malaysia. From January to August 2026, Proton e.MAS recorded 27,403 domestic registrations, further cementing its position as the country’s No. 1 EV brand. The achievement reflects sustained demand across its model range, with the Proton e.MAS 5 leading the EV segment, while the Proton e.MAS 7 remains the No. 1 EV SUV and the Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV continues to lead the PHEV segment.

This latest milestone comes fresh off the back of Proton e.MAS recently surpassing 6,000 registrations in a single month for the first time ever, further reinforcing the brand’s strong growth momentum in 2026. This is reflected in its year-to-date performance, with Proton e.MAS recording 27,856 total registrations, comprising 18,014 units of the Proton e.MAS 5 and 4,278 units of the Proton e.MAS 7, including both domestic and export registrations, alongside 5,562 units of the Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV from the domestic market, contributing to Proton e.MAS’ 32.5% share of Malaysia’s xEV market. Based on domestic registrations, Proton e.MAS continues to command approximately 60% of Malaysia’s EV market, further strengthening its position as Malaysia’s leading EV brand.

“Achieving more than 60% market share is a significant milestone for Proton e.MAS, but more importantly it reflects Malaysians’ growing confidence in electrified mobility. As the national EV brand, our responsibility extends beyond putting more EVs on the road. We are focused on building the ecosystem, capabilities and infrastructure needed to support long-term EV adoption for all Malaysians,” said Mr. Zhang Qiang, Chief Executive Officer of PRO-NET.

Mr. Zhang Qiang added: “PRO-NET will remain focused on building the foundations for long-term EV adoption, strengthening charging accessibility, aftersales capabilities, local talent and localisation in support of Malaysia’s ambitions under the Low Carbon Mobility Blueprint (LCMB) and National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR).”

Strengthening the Ecosystem Behind Malaysia’s No.1 EV Brand

As the number of Proton e.MAS vehicles on Malaysian roads continues to grow, PRO-NET is strengthening the ecosystem that supports customers throughout their ownership journey. With a nationwide network of 60 dealerships, 46 authorised service centres and 10 Body & Paint facilities, Proton e.MAS is able to provide customers with convenient access to sales, maintenance and aftersales support across the country.

Charging accessibility has also continued to expand. Through the Integrated Live Charging Map available in every Proton e.MAS vehicle and via the Proton e.MAS App, customers can access more than 4,700 charging points nationwide, covering over 90% of Malaysia’s public charging infrastructure.

Recognising the importance of convenient charging for customers living in high-rise residences, Proton e.MAS is also expanding residential charging accessibility. Through collaborations with ChargeSini, JomCharge, Charge+, Time Charge N Go and RExharge, Proton e.MAS owners can enjoy a special charging rate of RM0.63/kWh until 31 December 2026 across more than 1,500 charging points at over 500 participating high-rise residences nationwide.

Building Local Capabilities for Long-Term EV Growth

Alongside its expanding customer ecosystem, PRO-NET continues to strengthen the local capabilities and expertise needed to support Malaysia’s growing EV population.

All Proton e.MAS models and variants are now locally assembled (CKD) at PROTON’s EV plant in the Automotive High Tech Valley (AHTV), Tanjong Malim, supporting local manufacturing capabilities, skilled employment and the wider EV supply chain.

PRO-NET is also investing in the development of local EV talent. In August 2026, 37 technicians from 25 authorised dealerships achieved Level 2 EV certification with TVETMARA, strengthening the pool of locally trained professionals equipped to support the growing number of EVs on Malaysian roads.

Continuous skills development across the network is supported through the e.MAS Certified Technician Programme (e.CTP) and e.MAS Certified Service Advisor Programme (e.CSA), complemented by the inaugural e.MAS Electrified Excellence Competition, which brings together technicians and service advisors from 45 dealerships nationwide.

Aftersales readiness is further supported by strong parts availability, with 98.8% of common spare parts available across the authorised Proton e.MAS network, helping minimise vehicle downtime and provide customers with greater confidence throughout ownership.

A Driver of Malaysia’s Electrification Ambitions

Apart from the rising adoption of electric vehicles, Proton e.MAS also embodies the ongoing evolution of an ecosystem aimed at facilitating Malaysia’s shift towards electrified transportation. By investing in charging infrastructure, enhancing dealership and aftersales services, fostering talent development, and promoting localisation, PRO-NET is laying the groundwork necessary for sustained EV growth throughout the nation.

These efforts are aligned with Malaysia’s broader aspirations under the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR) and Low Carbon Mobility Blueprint (LCMB), contributing towards a more sustainable mobility future while strengthening the nation’s position within the regional EV landscape.
