Say hello to Ferrari’s latest drop-top grand tourer: the Ferrari Amalfi Spider, brought to Malaysian shores via official importer Ital Auto Malaysia.

Now, if you are thinking, “Isn’t this just an Amalfi with the roof chopped off?”, hold your thoughts. Ferrari didn’t just grab an angle grinder and call it a day (they rarely do so, why? cos they can). They overhauled the chassis, fine-tuned the aerodynamics, and reworked the cabin dynamics to make sure it handles like a proper Maranello machine, even with the wind in your hair. Here at Drivin On, we reckon it might just be the sweetest way to cruise the coast.

That Fast-Folding Soft Top

The biggest talking point is, of course, the new Z-fold fabric roof replacing the hardtop.

  • 13.5 seconds: How fast it folds away or goes back up.
  • Up to 60 km/h: The speed you can operate it at—perfect when a sudden Malaysian downpour catches you out at the lights.
  • 220 mm thick: Extremely compact when stowed, leaving you 172 liters of boot space (or 255 liters with the roof up).

Worried about road noise? Ferrari packed in a 5-layer acoustic fabric designed to match the insulation of a retractable hardtop. Plus, there is a smart new wind deflector integrated right behind the rear seats. Pop it up at the press of a button (usable up to 170 km/h once deployed) to keep cabin turbulence low, so your hair stays relatively intact.

Pure V8 Firepower

Under the sleek bonnet lies the legendary 3.9-litre twin-turbo V8 (from the F154 family). The numbers speak for themselves:

  • Power: 640 hp @ 7,500 rpm
  • Torque: 760 Nm @ 3,000–5,750 rpm
  • Transmission: 8-speed dual-clutch F1 DCT
  • 0–100 km/h: 3.3 seconds
  • Top Speed: 320 km/h

Ferrari even tweaked the internal components—lighter camshafts, faster turbo speeds (up to 171,000 rpm!), and low-viscosity engine oil for less friction on cold starts. It’s light, rev-happy, and seriously potent.

Active Aero & Driving Magic

To keep a drop-top stable when you are pushing hard, the Amalfi Spider features an active rear wing with three modes: Low Drag, Medium Downforce, and High Downforce. At 250 km/h in High Downforce mode, it glues the rear axle down with an extra 110 kg of downforce.

On the dynamics side, you get the classic 5-position Manettino dial (Wet, Comfort, Sport, Race, ESC-Off) alongside a 6D sensor-backed ABS Evo system and brake-by-wire. The electric power steering response is 10% faster and sharper, giving you maximum confidence through tight corners.

What’s It Like Inside?

Inside, you get Ferrari’s signature dual-cockpit layout that creates dedicated spaces for both driver and passenger. And here is a win for tactile feedback: physical buttons are back on the steering wheel, including a solid aluminum Engine Start button.

Your front passenger also gets an 8.8-inch display showing G-forces and engine revs which is ideal for scaring them on backroads. Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, wireless phone charging, and MyFerrari Connect all come as standard.

Daily Driver Practicality

Despite packing 640 hp, this is a 2+ GT at heart. The front seats are the main event, while the rear seats work great for extra luggage or smaller kids.

It rolls on 20-inch wheels paired with high-performance rubber co-developed with Pirelli (P ZERO), Goodyear (Eagle F1 SuperSport), or Bridgestone (Potenza Sport).

Our Verdict?

At Drivin On, we see the Ferrari Amalfi Spider as a grand tourer that hits the sweet spot between high-end performance and everyday usability. You get supercar speeds, open-air thrills, usable boot space, and Ferrari’s 7-Year Genuine Maintenance program for complete peace of mind.

Official Malaysian pricing hasn’t been announced just yet, but one thing is certain: sunny weekend drives just got a whole lot louder and it is estimated to reach around a baseline of around RM3 million before any sorts of customization.
